Patna high court took cognizance of TOI headline “24 bihar women underwent forced  tubectomy without anaesthesia”.

The matter came into attention when the chief justice Sanjay Karol was casually going through Times of India headlines. On the follow up report of the Patna edition, it says “Khagaria labourer, still recovering from shock after tubectomy ‘trial’”.

The division questioned the advocate general regarding the report on trauma of Damyanti Devi, a migrant labourer’s wife who was one of the women being forced to undergo contraceptive surgery sans anaesthesia. They further point out the report with a caption “24 questions: No one held guilty for forcing women to tubectomy without anaesthesia”

The matter was further inquired by the district magistrate and its first hearing posted for the upcoming week.
