A 33-week pregnant woman got permission from the Delhi court to terminate her pregnancy. Before delivering the verdict, Justice Prathibha M Singh interacted with the woman and was pretty convinced with her well-informed decision.
According to Justice Prathibha M Singh, the termination decision in such cases must be recognized with the mother’s choice and the probabilities of the dignified status of the unborn”.
The pregnant woman approached the court for medical termination on account of abnormalities in her foetus. She pointed to the risks associated with the fetus’s cerebral anomalies and that she is concerned about the dignified status of the unborn. This was against the (Medical Termination Pregnancy) MTP act. According to this act, medical termination of pregnancy is allowed only till 24 weeks.
